This paper deals with one aspect of Nzema Ayabomo songs. It examines women's discourse on the theme of social change in the songs. In particular, it attempts to analyze the different ways in which Nzema women appropriate a profound awareness of changes in their environment as a form of empowerment to undermine fixed perceptions of women and their seeming marginality in the social process.Issue title; "African Oral Traditions.
