Catalog management at CDS

<p>VizieR provides access to the most complete library of published astronomical<br> catalogues (data tables and associated data) available on line and organized <br> in a self-documented database (11769 catalogues in november 2013).<br> The VizieR search engine use indexation based on several criteria which needs <br> the expertise of scientists and documentalists to ingest each catalog. These <br> metadata go with an efficient position search engine adapted to big data <br> (Gaia simulation catalog has more than 2billions of objects)</p> <p>Informations in VizieR tables are well described, and can be retrieved easily.<br> The search process gives a good visibility to catalogs with tools and protocols<br> to disseminate data to the Virtual Observatory and thus to give the scientists <br> data reusable by dedicated tools (e.g.: image vizualisation tools).<br> Also, a new functionality allows users to extract all photometric data in catalogs<br> for a position</p> <p>Finally, it is also through cross-identification tools that the CDS becomes a<br> partner of producing large data sets, such as Gaia.
