<p>English abstract</p> <p>Introduction: The Carlos III Institute of Health (ISCIII), through the National Library of Health Sciences (BNCS), has promoted the creation of a free access National Union Catalogue of Health Sciences (CNCS), aiming to collaborate on the interlibrary loan of documents to benefit users of spanish health libraries. This tool, accessible via Internet provides fast, easy and versatile access to data from other applications through web pages and XML queries. Methods: In October 2012 an open source application was selected for the catalog implementation and the necessary steps were initiated to allow libraries to integrate their collections and the information concerning their centers.
