Why does publishing open access help early career researchers?

<p>Are you an early career researcher or PhD candidate? Do you want to know more about open access publishing and the opportunities that it offers? Come along to this interactive talk in Cambridge to find out about the benefits of open access publishing.</p> <p>This event features talks from open access publishers and looks at the different models available to authors. Examples will be drawn from the areas of biological and medical sciences. </p> <p> </p> <p><strong>Speaker biographies:</strong></p> <p>Rachel Drysdale</p> <p>Rachel was a researcher in genetics for 10 years before joining the Department of Genetics here in Cambridge where she spent 15 years working on FlyBase, the database of Drosophila genetics and genomics. She joined PLOS in 2011, where she has been Taxonomy Manager since 2012.</p> <p>Mark Patterson</p> <p>Mark was a researcher in genetics for 12 years before moving into scientific publishing in 1994. He worked at the Trends Journals and Nature Publishing Group. In 2003 Mark moved into open-access publishing first at PLOS and then at eLife in 2011 where he is currently the Executive Director.
