Developing, Enabling, and Supporting Data and Repository Certification

<p>This invited webinar presentation to the DataONE Member Nodes Forum on June 8, 2017 was initiated by an informal survey (draft) on data and repository certification previously introduced to the DataONE Users Group. The informal survey was influenced by a scientist's post to the USGS CDI Data Management Working Group list on EarthCube accepted data repositories. A USGS Science Data Management Branch Chief and Archivist introduced the DSA-WDS Partnership Working Catalogue of Common Requirements V2.3 to the USGS CDI Data Management Working Group list serve and articulated its adoption specific to USGS entities and USGS datasets. This use case influenced the development of an informal survey (unpublished). This presentation introduces a few certifications (e.g. DSA and WDS) and standards bodies, ISO definitions of certification and accreditation, and provides pointers and resources to aid in the pursuit of certification and standards for data and repository, where appropriate, beneficial, and feasible.
