<p>An example of how space proportional to the growth in expanded node needs to be opened up around the node before expand can be performed. For the graph in <a href="http://www.plosone.org/article/info:doi/10.1371/journal.pone.0197238#pone.0197238.g008" target="_blank">Fig 8.A</a>, an expand is performed on the central node without any adjustment (A), when an expand is performed on the central node after an adjustment using a method by Storey et al. inspired by fisheye lens paradigm (B), followed by an incremental layout with low initial temperature to “polish” the layout (C).
