<p><i>Objectives</i>: Providing analgesia and sedation while allowing for neurological assessment is important in the neurocritical care unit (NCCU), yet data are limited about the effects of protocolised analgesia and sedation. We developed an analgesia-based sedation protocol and evaluated its effect on medication utilisation and costs in the NCCU.</p> <p><i>Methods</i>: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of patients who are mechanically ventilated and admitted to a 12-bed NCCU over four years.
