<p>In the learning period (left) 6 coloured squares (red, green, magenta, black, yellow and blue) were presented around the centre of the screen, the location of each square was assigned to a corresponding button. The target square in the middle simultaneously appeared at fixation and its colour indicated the button that should be pressed in the current trial (i.e., red in the centre indicates to press the finger assigned to the red square, in this case the second finger of the right hand). Importantly, in each trial the assignment of the colours to the response locations changed, which allowed the establishment of a motor sequence without a correlation between perceptual and response sequence.
