Probing competent bifunctional electrocatalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) plays a crucial role in the development of energy conversion and storage systems. Herein, we introduce a continuous self-sacrifice template strategy for synthesis of the novel NiCo<sub>2</sub>O<sub>4</sub>/Co,N-CNTs nanocages (NCs) as an efficient ORR/OER bifunctional electrocatalyst for Zn–air batteries. The NiCo<sub>2</sub>O<sub>4</sub> and Co,N-CNTs are derived from the external and internal self-sacrifice of ZIF-67, respectively.
