<p>In Spring 2016 the University of York launched a research project to better understand academic staff. Ambitiously titled ‘Understanding Academics’ the aims of the project were threefold: to gain a better understanding of how academics at York approach their research and teaching activities; to consider how Library services currently facilitate and support those activities;and to integrate the ‘academic voice’ into future service planning and development of support for academics, ensuring that the Library continues to engage departments in innovative ways that respond to both current and future needs.The project centred around the use of specific ethnographic methodologies and in particular two UX techniques: cognitive mapping followed b...
