Geology of the Southern Part of the Fra Cristobal Range, Sierra County, New Mexico

Emphasis has been placed in this work on the structural features of the southern part of the Fra Cristobal Range in order to extend the studies in the Caballo Mountains area and the McRae Canyon area. By mapping in detail the structure of the Fra Cristobal range it is hoped that a better understanding of the adjoining Rio Grande and Jornada del Muerto depressions may be reached. As an added contribution, a Permian section was measured as these rocks are relatively undeformed and very well exposed in some parts of the range. The field mapping was done in the spring and summer of 1954. Field data were plotted on aerial photographs to a scale of 1:31, 680 and subsequently transferred to a base map made from U.S. Soil Conservation Service Planimetric maps.
