Identity is the integrative principle or a real (metaphysical pluralism) or mental principle (metaphysical monism). In monism, identity is determinated intentionally - mentally. In pluralism, identity is seen as a whole that unifies the structural elements of an object or being - it can be defined as an intentional identity at the level of intellectual consolidation. The latin term identitas - identity, can also be translated as identicalness or identifying oneself with an entity at the cognitive - evaluative - categorical level but not at the substantial - transcendental level. Perceiving the two types of identity, unifying the elements of the entity's structure and the intentional identity can, from the point of resocialization process-building, be helpful in distinguishing the person undergoing resocialization i.e. their identity - their substantial unity, subjectivity - from their intentional identity i.e. the process indicating how a person enriches their nature. Such an awareness will draw attention to the fact that one finds subjectivity, i.e. the human being, in the process of resocialization. Tożsamość w monizmie jest zidentyfikowana celowo intelektualnie. W pluralizmie tożsamość rozumie się jako jedność scalającą elementy strukturalne bytu lub przedmiotu (kultura: technika, sztuka, nauka), którą można określić jako tożsamość celową na poziomie scalania intelektualnego. Termin łaciński identitas – tożsamość, można również przetłumaczyć jako identyczność lub utożsamienie z czymś na poziomie poznawczo- oceniającym (kategorialnym), lecz nie na poziomie substancjalnym – transcendentnym. Dostrzeżenie dwóch typów tożsamości scalającej: elementy struktury bytu (unum – jedność) i tożsamości celowej (identitas), w perspektywie budowania resocjalizacji, może być pomocne w odróżnieniu osoby resocjalizowanej, czyli jej tożsamości – jedności substancjalnej, podmiotowości, od tożsamości celowej, czyli procesu wskazującego na to, jak ta osoba wzbogaca swoją naturę. Takie rozumienie doprowadzi do zwrócenia uwagi na to, że w procesie resocjalizacji zastaje się podmiotowość, czyli człowieka, oraz na to, co jest przez tego człowieka nabywane w interakcji społeczne
