Mag Litwor, Król-Duch i joga, czyli o Nietocie Tadeusza Micińskiego i wiedzy tajemnej Wschodu

The novel Nietota (1910), written by Tadeusz Miciński, is certainly the work in which the writer of Young Poland sublimely showed his indological knowledge associated with a broad range of issues: geographical, religious studies, philosophical or mythological – literary. The author of the article gives specific attention to the character of Mag Litwor and she emphasises that in the creation of this character, Miciński combined a romantic concept of kings-spirit (pol. królów-duchów) by Słowacki with the concept of mahatmas, which comes from the Hindu-Buddhist esoteric. According to the author of the article, indological themes do not have just the ornamental function in the novel Nietota, what is specific feature of Young Poland’s fashion for Orientalism. The writer uses and introduces these themes consciously into the structures of the novel and thus he forms different levels of meaning of the text.
