The simultaneous presence of traces of water and an alternating electric field produces water trees which considerably influence the dielectric properties of the synthetic insulation of the cables.This work presents the results of a study of the effect of temperature on the development of water trees in a polyethylene model laboratory water needle.The increase in temperature reduces the delay in the appearance of the trees and its dispersion. This result is interpreted by a morphological modification at the water / polymer interface.The kinetics of propagation is slower as the temperature is higher; at the same time, the increase in temperature causes a greater internal degradation (increase of the water content in the material).
