The extraction of mandibular third molars (3M) exposes the patients to a risk of injury the inferior alveolar nerve (IAN), hence there is the need for a preoperative radiographic examination. In some cases it could be necessary to prescribe a Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) which specifies the relation between IAN and 3M. A prospective study was carried out from december 2016 to september 2017 in the odontological service of La Timone hospital in Marseille, France. The aim of this study was to evaluate the professional practises for CBCT prescriptions before 3M extraction, and to compare the results of the observed anatomical relations for each imaging modalities.
