International audienceThe creation of a European Border and Coast Guard Corps by the EU Regulation of 14 September 2016 is an interesting innovation but the project may seem unfinished. Indeed, as a result of the 2015 refugee crisis, it does not take sufficient account of the unity of the marine environment which knows no real borders and of its specificity. Rather than a coast guard, it is a coastguard function that needs to be considered at the European level in order to implement a maritime safeguard strategy in the face of threats to the marine environment and to those that come from sea.
