International audienceThe history of water has developed in connection with social concerns over resource management and aquatic environments. Recent developments in environmental history confer new ambitions on the innovative concept of "hydro history," recently forged by Guy Lemeunier and Vincent Lemire. The objective indeed is to consider in what ways management of water resources, in its diverse forms, participates in the construction of territories and societies. This requires not only taking into account the motivations of water management actors and the results obtained by cultural and technical processes, but also the conflicts and negotiations which lead to forms of appropriation, use and sharing water.
