International audienceIn this article, several schemes related to the field of Fault Detection and Isolation (FDI), Fault Detection and Diagnosis (FDD), and Fault Tolerant Control (FTC) are presented both from a theoretical perspective and, more importantly, from an application perspective. The focus of the applications is the aeronautical domain and they cover a range of projects undertaken during the last two decades. These projects (some of them were funded by European Commission) showcase the time-line followed in Europe for the evolution and transfer of aircraft Fault Detection, Identification and Reconfiguration (FDIR), which include the FDI/FDD/FTC modules, from the academic to the industry sector
