Variabilité des traditions rhétoriques : qu’en disent les scripteurs ? Une étude de cas en France

International audienceIn the last few decades, researchers in contrastive rhetoric have shown that written academic discourse differs from one cultural area to another. But to date, little research has been carried out explicitely covering French written texts. It would be interesting to study how these variations in rhetoric traditions are perceived by non-native writers and in doing so gain a better understanding in what way they consider them to be a major obstacle when writing in French. To help answer these questions, a survey was carried out amongst foreign adults participating in a written argumentation course in France. Most of those questioned said that the way arguments are constructed differs in France when compared to there countries of origin ; for some of those interviewed, as far as the French cultural sphere and language was concerned, there existed a specific way-"à la française"-of thinking and of constructing a written argument
