International audienceIn the last few decades, researchers in contrastive rhetoric have shown that written academic discourse differs from one cultural area to another. But to date, little research has been carried out explicitely covering French written texts. It would be interesting to study how these variations in rhetoric traditions are perceived by non-native writers and in doing so gain a better understanding in what way they consider them to be a major obstacle when writing in French. To help answer these questions, a survey was carried out amongst foreign adults participating in a written argumentation course in France.
