ON THE ISSUE OF CAPITAL CITY DEFINITION

Within the framework of the research the relevance of the study of the capital functions of the cities of Russia is justified, the polygon of the study is determined. As a test site were recognized Russian cities with a population of over 1 million people, which are at the same time the capitals of the constituent entities of the Federation. The analysis of the phenomenon of capitals gives opportunity to identify its key characteristics. The comparison of the content of the concepts such as "capital city", "global city", "notable city", "metro city" is fulfilled. Directions of future researches are formulated.В рамках проведенного исследования обоснована актуальность изучения столичных функций городов России, определен полигон исследования. В качестве полигона исследования выступили российские города с численностью свыше одного миллиона человек, которые одновременно являются столицами субъектов Российской Федерации. Проведен анализ феномена столичности, выявлены его ключевые характеристики. Выполнено сравнение содержания понятий «столичный город», «глобальный город», «приматный город», «метрополитенский город». Сформулированы направления будущих исследований
