The vision of the future of chiltren in institutional care

The diploma thesis studies preconceptions regarding future of children at the age of 15, growing up in institutional care. It is based on experience of educators working in children homes when hearing children's ambitious preconceptions about future which often remain unfulfilled. Theoretical part characterizes institutional care, specifics of adolescence, psychological deprivation as a result of institutional care and describes outcomes of foreign studies on children's preconceptions regarding future and how it is constructed. The aim of empirical part is to deeply examine children's preconceptions regarding future in institutional care in areas of profession, career ambitions, relationships, values and hobbies and to compare them with the body of research exploring preconceptions regarding future of children living in their families. For this purpose, interviews with children are carried out and interpreted using the coding method. Results can be used for targeted educational work with children growing up in institutional care with the intention of preparing them better for entry into independent life
