Oxidoreductases have become useful tools in the hands of chemists to perform selective and mild oxidation and reduction reactions. Instead of mimicking native catalytic cycles, generally involving costly and unstable nicotinamide cofactors, more direct, NAD(P)-independent methodologies are being developed.
