This paper proposes the velocity profile to minimize fuel consumption based on Global Positioning System (GPS) and the 3D road map database. Numerous previous studies have suggested that fuel consumption is approximately minimized by operation at constant speed. And it is most favorable to coast as long as it does not break the legal speed limit because braking instigates wasting energy and should thus be minimized. Maximum fuel reduction is obtained by implementing the fuel cut-off point as soon as possible. There are insufficient effects on fuel economy when the driver drives on roads with up-down slope.
