During Japanese occupation period, urban structure of each provincial city has changed. The current basic skeleton has been formed through modernization process since then. Especially, the downtown of Cheongju, a hub of inland areas maintains traditional structures of town and Eup Fortress, and its shapes have remained until now after Japanese urban plans were applied. The Dong(???)’s boundaries which have been set in 1928 match with current administrative areas almost completely.
