Soap opera: Fluorinated amphiphile F4-MNG confers greater stability on Rhodobacter capsulatus superassembly relative to conventional detergents and nonfluorinated MNGs. Such amphiphiles are attractive as tools for membrane science because of their ease of preparation and structure variation. This work was supported by the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF) funded by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (grant numbers 2008?0061856 and 2012R1A1A1040964 to P.S.C., K.H.C.). We thank Philip Laible (Argonne National Laboratory, IL, USA) for supplying membrane preparations from R. capsulatus
