The most essential passive optical element in Liquid Crystal Displays (LCDs) is the polarizer. Here, we report on new polarizers based on guest-host systems that show excellent optical performance at a thickness of only 5 micron. This paper will discuss the advantages and current status of the guest-host polarizer technology
