Causes and Remedies of Sedition in Hobbes’s Behemoth · This paper focuses on the concept of sedition in Thomas Hobbes’ Behemoth. It begins by briefly treating the sources that influenced Hobbes in this reflection, as well as how his thought evolved between the Elements and Leviathan. It then examines the passionate, institutional and ideological causes of the political crisis, and its possible remedies. In this way, the article aims to highlight the main aspects of the theory underlying the Behemoth’s narration of the civil war : the primary role given to ‘ideological’ motivations ; the function of public education in the creation of a rational consensus ; the democratic implications of the link between power and consensus
