Lifestyle and quality of life of seniors living in nursing homes for the elderly

Abstract This bachelor thesis deals with quality of life of seniors living in retirement homes. The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical part. Theoretical part includes three chapters. The first chapter contains subheads, which delimit concept senior and old age, define physical, psychological and social changes, which senior in age passes. Second chapter includes demarcation of concept quality of life, his various concept in medicine, sociology and psychology. Second chapter also defines the difference between objective and subjective assessment of quality of life. At the end of this chapter are the most importantl factors affecting the quality of life of seniors. The third chapter includes some important aspects of life of the seniors in retirement homes. The main aim of this bachelor thesis is to determine how seniors subjectively perceive their quality in retirement homes and what factors affect their satisfaction and what factors disable to achieve their satisfaction. The practical part is processed by form of qualitative research, the main method is semistructured interviews with seniors living in retirement homes. From the acquired data were made detailed case studies. From the case studies was found that seniors living in retirement homes are satisfied. Their satisfaction is influenced mainly by the family, health and favorite leisure activities. Dissatisfaction of seniors is caused by need to use mobility aids resulting from health condition, safety regulations restricting freedom of movement seniors around campus home for the elderly and negative emotional tuning of other seniors at retirement home
