Bibliothek Forschung und Praxis. 2006;30(3):350-352.The international project partnership DRIVER has begun to prepare the ground for a novel, distributed and public infrastructure for scholarly information. The acronym DRIVER stands for „Digital Repository Infrastructure Vision of European Research“. Ten partners from eight countries started the cooperation to network initially more than 50 distributed, knowledge repositories in libraries of academic institutions with content from the sciences and the humanities. With this effort, DRIVER builds a test-bed that supports the development of an internet-based knowledge space in the European Research Area. Therewith, the role of the academic library as a guarantor of access to scholarly information in the progressing digital world is put into practice.Les partenaires internationaux du projet DRIVER ont commencé d'ouvrir le chemin à une infrastructure partagé et publique d'informations scientifiques en Europe. L'acronyme DRIVER veut dire „Digital Repository Infrastructure Vision for European Research“. Dix partenaires de huit pays sont entrés en coopération afin de mettre en réseau d'abord plus de 50 mémoires du savoir scientifiques diversifiés, appelés „repositoires”, d'universités et d'instituts de recherche. DRIVER construit ainsi un entourage d'essai pour soutenir le développement d'une infrastructure scientifique basée sur l'internet à l'espace de recherche européen. Le rôle des bibliothèques scientifiques en tant que garants de l'accès aux informations scientifiques dans le développement progressif du monde digital sera realisé pratiquement avec DRIVER.Die internationale Projektpartnerschaft DRIVER hat begonnen, einer neuartigen, verteilten und öffentlichen Infrastruktur für wissenschaftliche Informationen in Europa den Weg zu bereiten. Das Akronym DRIVER steht für „Digital Repository Infrastructure Vision for European Research“. Zehn Partner aus acht Ländern sind die Kooperation eingegangen, um zunächst mehr als 50 räumlich verteilte, wissenschaftliche Wissensspeicher, so genannte „Repositorien“, von Universitäten und Forschungseinrichtungen zu vernetzen. DRIVER baut damit eine Testumgebung auf, die die Entwicklung einer internetbasierten Wissens-Infrastruktur für den Europäischen Forschungsraum unterstützt. Die Rolle von wissenschaftlichen Bibliotheken als Garanten des Zugangs zu wissenschaftlicher Information in der fortschreitenden Entwicklung der digitalen Welt wird in DRIVER praktisch umgesetzt
