The prevalence of work-related stress and professional burnout among emergency department nurses. Master‘s thesis. Supervisor – prof. d. Eglė Vaitkaitienė. The purpose: to determine factors of work-related stress and professional burnout among emergency department nurses in the hospital of Lithuanian university of health sciences Kaunas clinics. Tasks: 1. To evaluate the components of the professional burnout of respondents in the research group. 2. To determine interfaces between professional burnout and subjective well-being of respondents in the research group. 3. To evaluate the most common ways of stress perception and management indicated by nurses. The research object: emergency department nurses of the hospital of Lithuanian university of health sciences Kaunas clinics. Methods. The anonymous questionnaire survey carried out during the period between February and March of 2017. For the quantitative instantaneous study were used standardized questionnaires: general health questionnaire, expanded nursing stress scale, psycho active substanceuse questionnaire, stress management questionnaire. Sample n=42 emergency department nurses, response rate 80,9%. Statistical data analysis was carried out by using IBM SPSS programme. The hypothesis about dependence of attributes was checked using chi-square (χ2) criteria. Conclusions. Emergency care nurses have a lower than average level of stress, often caused by high work load and conflict situations with patients and their relatives. The increased stress of emergency care nurses, as well as poorer self-esteem, are associated with a higher tendency to burnout components, such as emotional exhaustion and depersonalization. For the stress management most often respondents were using social support and problem solving, less often – avoidance factor. Emotional discharges are the least used by respondents
