Investigation of the antimicrobial properties of Legume plants (Fabaceae L.), their maturation stage and the parts of the plant.

Reaserach aim: To assess antimicrobial efficiency of different morphological plant parts (flower, leaf, steam, seeds) in the different stage of maturity (blooming, branching) of Legume plants samples, collected in Lithuania. Objectives: Red clover (T.pretense L.) different wild ecotypes (Sadūnai, Vyčiai, Liepsna, Kiršiniai, Kamaniai, Radvilai, Arimaičiai), Zigzag clover (T.medium L.), Alfalfa (M.sativa L.), Black medick (M.lupulina L.), Sainfoin (O.viciifolia Scop.), Liquorice milkvetch (A.glycyphyllos L.) and Cicer milkvetch (A.cicer L.) different morphological plants samples of flowers, leaves, steams, seeds also all plant sample collected on blooming and branching stages. Research methodology: Freeze-dried plants materials were extracted with 70 % ethanol (1:10) using an ultrasonic bath for 30 minutes at 50-55°C. The extracts were filtered through Whatman filter paper. The filtrates were concentrated, then evaporated to dryness by placing them in a water bath at 50°C. The concentrated extracts were stored in the dark at 4 – 8°C. The concentrated plants extracts were dissolved in 3 mL of 30% ethanol. One millilitre of the solution was mixed with 9 mL of warmed-up to 45°C Mueller–Hinton agar and poured into sterile petri dishes. Each segment was inoculated with the suspension of the reference strains of 10 different microbial species. The antibacterial activity of plant extracts after 24 hours in thermostat (35°C) was evaluated as a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) by using an agar dilution technique. Conclusions: It was found that Red and Zigzag clovers have the strongest antimicrobial activity on plants branching stage period. The most active antimicrobial properties which has morphological plant part are flowers of the Legumes plants. The most active antimicrobial activity of the seeds extracts has Sainfoin. The most active inhibitory effect of microorganisms has Sainfoin, in comparison with other parts of this plant and other representatives of the Legumes antimicrobial activity, it‘s recommended to proceed experiments with this legume plant
