In this work, the existence of electromagnetic bandgaps (EBG) on microstrip transmission lines by including crossshaped structures are studied in the frequency range of 8-15 GHz and compared with mushrooms type structures. The results show that the new structure behaves as a medium EBG and presents some advantages over mushroom inclusions, such us a double band-gap in the frequency range under study, which is related with its capacitive impedance. Furthermore, the incorporation of more than one row of cross-shaped elements on either side of the microstrip line does not significantly varies the results obtained using a single row, which allows more compact designs.Ingeniería, Industria y Construcció
