It is becoming increasingly evident that a waste management program, and especially a waste treatment technique, which ignores social aspects, is doomed to failure. Aspects concerning the problems of public acceptance, public participation in planning and implementation, consumer behaviour and changing value systems are no less important than the technical or economic aspects in waste management research and decision-making.
