Disease-related absences due to mental illness have risen sharply in recent years. The aim of this work is to develop a key performance indicator system that can be used to describe the chronic stress burden on employees in a company. Based on the state of the art of heart rate variability (HRV) and stress medication, it was deductively concluded on possible indicator systems which were subsequently evaluated. A simple and composite system of indicators has been developed, which makes it possible to determine the tendency of adaptability (health and well-being) to external and internal influences of employees.
