A redesign of the Beneteau 40.7 for optimised racing performance.

The Beneteau 40.7 launched in 1998 and built by Beneteau France, is a one-design cruiser racer. Racing fleets of 40.7's are very predominant in Spain, France, United Kingdom and Australia. These boats have been campaigned within large handicap events and appear to be very at home under race conditions, in part due to there excellent rating under the IRC and IMS rules, and also due to their exciting sailing characteristics. They are also equally at home cruising long distances at speed and in relative comfort. The true racing pedigree of this yacht is held back by the dual-purpose nature of the boat. The boat is a light displacement boat that is built using very basic specifications, and materials. The essence of this boat is two fold – cruising and racing, but a fact of life is that the racing pedigree of the hull form is held back by the sheer nature that the boat has to be able to be cruised in comfort and safety. It is for this reason that the idea of cruiser / racer is going to be changed to out and out racer. To do this the same hull form will be used to produce a high specification race boat that can compete with the likes of Farr 40’s, Mumm 36’s and other well-known race boats in this category
