The study covers the whole area of Kashmir with experimental study limited to the tribe Cardueae (cynareae) and systematic accounts of other tribes were given. For cardueae, an attempt was made to consolidate the taxonomic data with the help of personal experimentation of pollen morphology. The doubts in the taxonomy of the tribes of the some area were cleared during the study. Chromosome number of asteraceae was studied. Morphology, cytology, classification, palynotaxonomy and key to genera of tribe cardueae are the special features of the thesis
