Despite congenial climatic conditions the silk production in the State of Jammu and Kashmir has drastically declined from 76 tonnes in 1980 to 18 tonnes in 1991 (Anonymous, 1992). One of the factors responsible for the decrease in silk production was silkworm and mulberry disease. Almost all the commercial varieties of mulberry (Morus spp.) are prone to various diseases. The diseases not only reduce the leaf yield but impair its nutritional value. Feeding silkworms with diseased leaves adversely of mulberry is one among them.
