International audienceThis article is devoted to geometrically non-linear vibrations of thin structures. In those cases, energy transfers from one frequency band to another and from one part of the structure to another are usually observed. Two example of non-linear vibration of a shallow spherical shell have been selected to show the use of non-linear modes to built efficient reduced order models. In the first example, the trend of non-linearity (hardening/softening behaviour) for each mode of the shell is predicted as a function of its geometry. In the second example, a specific mode coupling due to a 1:1:2 internal resonance between two companion modes and an axisymmetric mode is studied. The solution of the model is compared to experime...
