International audienceIn order to demonstrate mechanical integrity of industrial buildings and equipments against increased seismic levels, we have to develop new numerical methods for an accurate computation of margins. Classical codes and regulations based methods are often too conservative and inappropriate: only new methods can accept all kinds of physically justified non linearities. This paper presents a new qualified method for the numerical simulation of large metallic tanks under increased seismic loads. This problem deals with strong non linearities (geometric and elastoplastic effects) leading eventually to buckling instabilities.
