The ancient, the medieval and the modern in a Greek-English Lexicon or : how to get your daily ‘bread’ in Greek through the ages

This chapter discusses theoretical and methodological aspects of Greek lexicography with particular reference to LSJ. Special attention is given to the question whether the online LSJ should incorporate information about Medieval and Modern Greek to elucidate the meaning and further development of Ancient Greek words. By way of illustration, the chapter studies in great detail the evolution of various words for ‘bread’ in the history of the Greek language from Ancient to Moder
