Democratic Equalities. For a conceptual History of Emancipation according to Jacques Rancière

Equality crosses the work of Jacques Rancière: primarily the assumption of equality, but also, and especially, its consequences: those of the radical power introduced by this possibility always open of breaking the oppression’s logics. Furthermore, the thought of Jacques Rancière is a thinking movement, built around dinstinctions and proximities with some authors, sometimes contemporary, but also voices and figures from a past in which Rancière research track of equality constitutive of the community (Jacotot). This article then proposes to explore, from the notion of equality, the affinities and ruptures built by Jacques Rancière, giving place to a definition of the equality for Rancière. So we'll see how Rancière opposes Habermas, depending on whether one considers that equality is proposed for consensus or otherwise, from a dissent; Rawls, when we consider the effects of the difference between the ability of anyone to say the wrong, and the fair distribution of the maximum possible equality. With the confrontation of Rancière with Bourdieu, we will see that the same concern for the word produces different effects, depending on whether one considers the domination mutes or incites a speech disruptive. Finally, with Balibar and Abensour, we'll see how emerges the definition of an infinite democratic equality.L’égalité traverse l’œuvre de Jacques Rancière: avant tout le présupposé de l’égalité, mais également, et surtout, ses conséquences: celles d’une puissance radicale introduite par cette possibilité toujours ouverte d’un bris du tort. Par ailleurs, la pensée de Jacques Rancière, pensée en mouvement, se construit autour de dinstinctions et de proximités avec certains auteurs, contemporains parfois, mais aussi des voix et des figures provenant d’un passé dans lequel Rancière recherche la trace de l’égalité constitutive de la communauté (Jacotot). Cet article se propose alors d’explorer, à partir de la notion d’égalité, les affinités et les ruptures construites par Jacques Rancière, ce qui permet en retour un approfondissement de la définition de l’égalité Ranciérienne. Ainsi, on verra comment Rancière s’oppose à Habermas, suivant que l’on considère que l’égalité est proposée en vue d’un consensus ou au contraire, à partir d’un dissensus ; à Rawls, lorsque qu’on considère les effets de la différence entre la capacité de n’importe qui à dire le tort, et la juste répartition du maximum d’égalité possible. Avec la confrontation de Rancière à Bourdieu, on verra qu’une même préoccupation pour la parole produit des effets différents, suivant que l’on considère que la domination rend muet ou incite une prise de parole disruptive.
