Representations of the destruction of Magdeburg in 1631: between raging conflict and condemnation of war

Este artículo aborda algunasrepresentaciones visuales y textuales del sitio y destrucción de Magdeburgo durante la Guerra de los Treinta Años. Busca de ese modo acercarse a las formas que los contemporáneos utilizaron para comprender y explicar un hecho tenido por excepcional incluso dentro de las reglas de la guerra usuales en la época. En algunas de esas representaciones se buscaba articular el hecho con sucesos previos, incluso algunos de tiempos remotos. Otras se volcaron a un dicterio de la guerra sin atenuantes.This article studies visual and textual representations of the siege and destruction of Magdeburg, during the Thirty Years’ War. It attempts to analyze the ways in which contemporary accounts attempted to understand and explain a fact that was considered exceptional, even in the frame of the rules of engagement of those times. Some of those representations attempted to link the fact with previous events, even remote in time. Others chose an outright condemnation of war as such.Fil: Kwiatkowski, Nicolás.
