Peatland pools usually show a marked gradient regarding their minerotrophic (harder and less acidic waters) versus ombrotrophic (softer and more acidic waters) status, which appears to be crucial in structuring their planktonic food webs. In this study, we analyzed the effect of such habitat diversity in shaping bacterioplankton assemblages. The planktonic bacteria from five pools located in Rancho Hambre peat bog (Tierra del Fuego Island) were studied through morphological and cytometric approaches, over more than one seasonal cycle.
