Magnesium (Mg) alloys are critical structural metals to the automotive industry due to their low density and high strength-to-weight ratio. The qualities employed in automobile components reduce fuel consumption and consequently, environmental pollution due to decreased greenhouse gas emissions. However, the alloys' poor corrosion resistance limits their application, specifically upon exposure to harsh service environments.
