Cultural heritage and the institutionalization of collective memory in Brazil

Este artigo estuda o conceito sobre patrimônio cultural na tentativa de entender como ocorre o processo sobre a proteção dos bens considerados de valor excepcional. A contextualização do tema leva ao estudo do patrimônio cultural no Brasil que é abordado através da pesquisa sobre o principal órgão responsável pela proteção e identificação dos bens, que iniciou-se em 1936 como Serviço do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional (SPHAN). A análise deste primeiro órgão nacional e sua evolução tem a finalidade de entender a institucionalização da memória coletiva no paísThis paper studies the concept of cultural heritage in an attempt to understand how the process on the protection of goods considered of exceptional value takes place. The contextualization of the theme leads to the study of cultural heritage in Brazil is approached through research on the main body responsible for the protection and identification of goods, which began in 1936 as National Historical and Artistic Patrimony Service (SPHAN). The analysis of this first national organ and its evolution has the purpose of understanding the institutionalization of the collective memory in the country
