Vinzenz Maschek (1755 - 1831) - Life and Work

Vinzenz Maschek (1755-1831) - Life and Work Abstract The goal of this two-volume thesis was to write a monograph about the life and work of the Czech composer Vinzenz Maschek. The first volume of the thesis presents Maschek as a virtuoso, composer, choir master as well as a man of his era - a husband and a father of 17 children. The second volume provides a thematic catalog of Maschek's works. This project follows up on research that started in 1987. The chapters of the thesis were written in different stages of more than twenty-year research of this topic and thus reflect this fact. Current research shows that Vinzenz Maschek is one of the most prominent composers of the turn of the 19th century both in Prague and in Central Europe. His works, in particular his piano concertos and large masses of extraordinary artistic value, should be published as a critical edition and performed by foremost interpreters. The thesis will surely help to expand our knowledge about the music and music life in Prague and entire Central Europe at the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century
