Specifics of nursing care for children with cerebral palsy

Current status: The research, among other issues of nursing care for children with Cerebral palsy in other important areas such as etiology, symptoms and treatment. The Cerebral palsy is a serious disease of the central nervous systém which affects the skeletal-muscular system of a person, thus limiting its momentum. This disease is permanent but because treatment can be improve What is important is early diagnosis and initiation of treatment of the disease. The aim of the work was to evaluate the nursing knowledge of nursing care for children with cerebral palsy. Methodology of work: For a research technique was chosen qualitative data collection methods using the technique of deep interviews which were conducted with nurses and parents of children with cerebral palsy. Interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed and then coded using the "pencil and paper" and categorized. Research sample was formed by nurses and parents of children with cerebral palsy. The first research sample consisted of five nurses working in the Children's Department. The second research sample consisted of parents of children with cerebral palsy. Selection of research sample was intentional and its size was determined by theoretical saturation of data. Results of the research showed that nurses have sufficient knowledge about nursing care for children with cerebral palsy. Nurses knowledge regarding etiology, symptoms and treatment of cerebral palsy are also sufficient. Furthermore, the sisters focus on ways of serving meals to children with cerebral palsy, the positioning and communication with the child and his parents. The second research survey showed that the majority of surveyed parents evaluate nursing care for their children as satisfactory. Information on rehabilitation methods is sufficient. Parents of children with cerebral palsy use all methods mentioned rehabilitation (Vojta´s reflex locomotion, Bobath method, Basal stimulation, music therapy, ergotherapy, speech therapy) and they know how often and how to use these methods. Conclusions and recommendations for practice: Cerebral palsy is among the less-occurring disease. Despite this fact, nurses have adequate knowledge to provide quality nursing care for children with cerebral palsy. An integral part of the quality and importance of awareness among parents of children with cerebral palsy. To take advantage of the thesis in practice created an information brochure, which is intended for the general public specifically for parents of children with cerebral palsy. This brochure could serve as a primary source of information on cerebral palsy.
