Pain is an essential subjective warning symptom that can transform into a disease when it becomes chronic and affects the patients’ quality of life. The oxytocinergic system has long been known to play a physiological role in pain perception and its psychological aspects. Despite potential implications for pain treatment, the oxytocinergic system has not yet been therapeutically targeted in clinical practice. This narrative review explores the latest scientific findings on the subject, and discusses some of the unexplored leads for the clinical use of oxytocin in the domain of pain treatment
