The aim of this dissertation is to shed light on the process of acquiring new vocabulary in a language classroom. Firstly I looked at how we can improve our memory capacity in order to increase vocabulary recall. Then I applied Howard Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences to see how taking into account the predominant intelligence of each individual learner can increase their motivation, concentration and thus their memory capacity. Finally, I explored various mnemonic devices. This led me to the question: can a learner’s memory capacity of new vocabulary increase by proposing activities to the learner which correspond to their predominant intelligence?
