In August, 2000, an intensive wide-angle seismic experiment was carried out across a foreland area of the Hidaka Collision Zone, Hokkaido, Japan. The 114-km EW profile line of this experiment almost coincides with the eastern half of a 227-km profile undertaken in 1999 from the NE Japan arc to the Kuril forearc across the Hidaka Collision Zone. The aim of the 2000 experiment was to elucidate the deep crustal structure in the fold-and-thrust belt formed by the collision of the NE Japan arc and the Kuril forearc. A total of 327 stations on the profile line recorded four explosive shots with 100-300 kg charges. The complicated seismograms obtained strongly indicate the occurrence of velocity reversal at depths. This experiment also provided im...
